Method

How we calculate your tax

  1. 1Your monthly salary is multiplied by 12, or your annual salary is used as entered. Any bonus or other taxable pay is added.
  2. 2We pick the slab for your annual taxable salary from the selected tax year's rules. Each tax year has its own version; we never use one year's rates for another.
  3. 3Tax is the slab's fixed amount plus its rate on the amount above the slab's lower limit, exactly as written in the law. A surcharge is added only in years and above the income level where it applied.
  4. 4Annual tax is rounded to the nearest rupee and divided by 12 for the monthly equivalent. Take-home pay is salary minus that tax.

What the estimate assumes

  • You are a resident individual and the rates for salaried individuals apply to you (salary is more than 75% of your taxable income).
  • The amount you enter is taxable salary. Exempt allowances, deductible allowances and tax credits are not taken off.
  • A monthly salary is multiplied by 12. Bonus and other taxable salary are added to the annual figure.
  • Annual tax is rounded to the nearest rupee, then divided by 12 for the monthly equivalent.
  • Tax already deducted by your employer, adjustable taxes and refunds are not included.

Not covered yet: business, freelance and export income, property, dividends, capital gains and other withholding taxes. These have their own rules and are not part of this estimate.

FAQ

Salary tax questions

What is Pakistan's tax year?

Pakistan's normal tax year runs from 1 July to 30 June and is named after the year in which it ends. Tax Year 2027 is 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027, often written as 2026-27.

What are the salary tax slabs for 2026-27?

For Tax Year 2027 (Finance Act 2026), the marginal rates for salaried individuals by annual taxable income are: up to Rs 600,000: 0%; up to Rs 1,200,000: 1%; up to Rs 2,200,000: 11%; up to Rs 3,200,000: 20%; up to Rs 4,100,000: 25%; up to Rs 5,600,000: 29%; up to Rs 7,000,000: 32%; above Rs 7,000,000: 35%. Each slab adds a fixed amount for the income below it; the full table is on this page.

How is annual salary tax estimated?

A monthly salary is multiplied by 12 and any bonus is added. The calculator finds the slab your annual taxable salary falls in and applies the fixed amount plus the slab rate on the amount above the slab's lower limit, then adds a surcharge where one applies. The annual tax is divided by 12 for the monthly figure.

Is there a surcharge on high salaries?

Tax Year 2026 had a 9% surcharge on the income tax where taxable income exceeded Rs 10,000,000, and Tax Year 2025 had a 10% surcharge on the income tax where taxable income exceeded Rs 10,000,000. FBR's Tax Year 2027 rate card lists no surcharge for salaried individuals, so none is applied for 2026-27.

Why can my payroll deduction differ from this estimate?

Your employer works out tax on your actual pay for the year, which can include exempt allowances, tax credits, adjustable taxes, salary changes and tax already deducted earlier in the year. This calculator assumes your entered salary is fully taxable and spread evenly over 12 months.

Which official sources are used?

The slab tables come from the Federal Board of Revenue's withholding tax rate cards for each tax year, read with the Finance Acts and the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001. The exact documents for every year are listed on this page.

When are the tax rules updated?

New rates usually come with each year's Finance Act, effective from 1 July. A new tax year is added after it has been checked against the official FBR documents, and appears here within an hour of being published; earlier years stay unchanged so you can still compare with them.

Is this an official FBR service?

No. 360PeopleForce is an independent HR and payroll software company and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Federal Board of Revenue. The result is an estimate, not a tax return or an FBR assessment.
